How do I compress a large video file?

If your video attachment is too large, you may not be able to upload it to the Telemedicine platform. You can follow the instructions below to compress your file which will make it smaller and easier to upload to the Telemedicine platform.

First, save your video file to your computer.

Next, open “VLC media player” (this is a common pre-downloaded app available on many desktop devices)


1. Click Media


2. Select Convert / Save


3. Click Add and select the file you wish to compress


4. Click Convert / Save



5. Click the Tool icon


6. Click Video codec
7. Click the Video checkbox

8. Click Resolution

9. In the box labelled Scale, type 0.5

10. Click Save


*You may be asked to make a Profile name for this step. You can name it Compression and use this setting in the future

11. Click Browse and choose a location to save your compressed file


12. Click Start

Now your compressed file will be saved on your device. You can upload it to the Telemedicine platform as you normally would.
